Today we celebrate you COWGIRLS!
It has officially been dubbed the year of the cowgirl. Though, for most of us, the Year of the Cowgirl is every year we get to pull on our boots and compete in the sport we love.
I am so excited about all the amazing things that are happening with the Women’s Rodeo Championships (WRC) and guess what, WE SEE YOU!
We see the journey you are on. The arena is so much more than a place of competition. It is the place where blood, sweat, tears, trials, tribulations, loses, wins, fast times, and victories are forged. It is a place where dreams are chased, friendships are made, and resilience is tested.
WRC sees the countless hours spent practicing, the early mornings, and the late nights. The time spent away from family fighting back tears about the recital you missed because of chasing the dream. We see your courage.
Each time you enter the arena, WRC is a sisterhood of cowgirls that are there to cheer you on. We strive to be another avenue for cowgirls to leave a legacy of strong determined women who fight for equality in the industry. Our goal is to make women’s rodeo an inclusive environment for all female rodeo athletes.
Remember you inspire us whether you’re roping, riding, barrel racing, or goat tying, your passion and hard work shine through. Lift each other up, because together we create a powerful sisterhood. All the new changes with the WRWC are for the betterment of the sport. The inclusion of the Limited classification and their shot at AT&T. The goat tying showcase, the payout and format revisions are all for the cowgirls and the sport.
We are excited to watch the leaderboard and the success of every cowgirl in our sisterhood. Keep riding with heart and know that your dedication and spirit are what truly make you successful.
With admiration we see you.
Happy National Day of the Cowgirl.
Linsay Rosser-Sumpter, Commissioner of the Women’s Rodeo Championships
